Why Are Worn Tires Dangerous?

Worn tires, also called bald tires, have a negative effect on the car as a whole. Because the tread is now lost, it offers little or no traction, particularly on wet roads. Not only is your ability to control the vehicle compromised, it also makes for a less enjoyable and dangerous driving experience.

Here are some of the reasons why worn tires are bad:

Tires with worn tread are more likely to leak air, affecting the car’s fuel economy.
Worn tires are more likely to hydroplane, as worn treads have a tendency to glide over the water.
Thicker tire treads allow more protection from objects piercing the tire, such as nails or screws.
Tires can heat up faster when the tread is low, making the rubber more likely to blowout.

As you can see, worn tires pose a whole host of problems. At Custom Complete Automotive, we recommend getting your tires checked regularly. At least once a month, check the tread on your tires. You can easily check with the coin test. Place any coin, head first, into a tire groove. If you can see the top of the president’s head, then it may be time to purchase replacement tires.
